A Dominican Presence in Spokane, WA
About Us
Founded in Spokane in 2019, we are the St. Michael Chapter of the Dominican Laity, a chapter in formation in the Western Province. We are on track to become a full fledged chapter in the coming years.
-
Being Dominican, is to be part of something larger than yourself, to devote yourself to contemplation, and prayer in community with your brothers and sisters both in Spokane and worldwide. We believe that the wood of the desk is the wood of the cross and devote ourselves to contemplation via study for the purpose of sharing the fruits of our contemplation with the wider church and beyond.
-
We are a diverse group of people ranging from young couples, to retirees and both men and women.
Our brothers and sisters work and volunteer in any sector, we have people in tech, healthcare, public service, and the Church.

The first step is to learn more. Come to one of our information nights, so you can have your questions answered.
Once you have taken the time to pray on this, the next step would be to formally apply to begin the formation process. To do this contact us and the prioress will send you the form to fill out.
After your application has been reviewed. If there are no roadblocks to your starting you will be interviewed by the prioress, who will then discuss your application with XXXX and determine if you are a good candidate to begin formation.
If you are accepted. We start new formation years in September. Your first year is your Inquiry or postulant year. At this point you will begin your study, which will continue the rest of the time you are in formation and beyond.
In year two you will receive the white scapular of the order and be considered a novice.
In year three you will recieve a dominican cross, and you will make a temporary profession for 1, 2, or 3 years.
In year six, your continuation will be put to a vote, and if you and we both decide to keep you, you will be allowed to make life profession to the order.
-
The amount of study is manageable. For the first two years its a few hours a week depending on how in-depth you go, and after that its determined by the formation director. We are currently using the old form of formation study located on the western province website.
